Party!!!!!!!!

Friday night we spent celebrating our friend, Matt Bozeman's birthday with a mustache party. Yes everyone had to wear a mustache, including the girls! We had a great time and there were a few that looked a little trashy with their new looks....my hubby included! The mustache looked very weird on him! Here are some pictures to show how we all looked....

The End

Before we left Cumberland we wanted to to go the beach one last time. Too bad it was foggy and windy so when we got out there we didn't venture far. It was freezing and the sand was blowing in our faces! It was still kind of fun though....so this is us saying goodbye to the Island.

Armadillos!!!

Ok, so my friend Katie told me that there were thousands and thousands of Armadillos on Cumberland Island. I figured she was exaggerating a little (or a lot :) But she was totally right! Everywhere we turned there was an Armadillo digging through the dirt to try and find its food. After getting used to them, I decided they were kind of cute...I know who thinks a rodent/turtle with hairy legs and ears is cute....well I do! :)

Along with the Armadillos (and horses) we saw several species of "song birds" (as the park calls them), seagulls, sandpipers, dead jelly fish (I thought they were cool), a snake, opossum, deer, and a few dolphins wile on our trip.

And back to your regular broadcast....

On our third day at Cumberland Island we got up at 6:30am to walk to the beach (in the dark) and waited until 7:30 (in the cold wind) to see the sun rise....or not. The sun was not going to come up this day. :( There was just too much fog for the sun to peek its head out. So disappointing since the day before was beautiful!

After our "sunrise" we made breakfast and enjoyed the morning reading at our camp site. It was chilly out so we also enjoyed the fire! In the afternoon we decided to go the the ruins again. We saw more horses and took many more pictures. :)

We also checked out the salt marshes at the south end of the Island...

On our way back, Eric tried to be Tarzan.... :)

Don't tell him I told you....but the vine broke :(

Random Findings at Cumberland

So while at Cumberland we discovered some random things that made our adventure fun and kind of random :)

This is called Bubble Gum Fungus...it grows on the trees, kind of cool hu?

Day Two at Cumberland Island

On our second day at Cumberland Island we rented some bikes and started the trek up the main road to Plum Orchard (built in 1898, a Georgian Revival mansion built by Lucy Carnegie for her son, George and his wife, Margaret Thaw :). This bike ride was 7.3 miles one way, not to bad on our bikes... right?? Unfortunately, at mile 6 Eric's bike chain broke and we were unable to repair it. :( We decided to ditch the bikes and walk the rest of the way to Plum Orchard (and then push the bikes back another 6 miles). The bike ride/walk was beautiful and we even got to see more horses! I have to say I think this place is pretty cool.

Live Oaks

On Cumberland Island there are so many different kinds of trees but the most noticeable are the Live Oak Trees with the Spanish Moss hanging from their branches. These trees are so pretty and so big! The trees twist and turn all over the place, even the grain of the wood is curvy.

Day One at Cumberland Island

We arrived in St.Marys, GA late Tuesday night and stayed in a hotel. The next morning we got up bright and early to head out to Cumberland Island. We took a ferry over to the island and on the way we saw a few dolphins!

When we got to the island we were assigned a camp site and took our gear about a half a mile up the road to our camp site. We set everything up before we had lunch.

After lunch we spent some time on the beach...The sun felt so good!!!

After the beach we walked over to the ruins of where the Carnege family used to live. Apparently the place burned down but it looked like the park has patched a few things up. While we were there we saw some feral horses. There are over 100 wild horses on the island...which made me super happy!!

Even on the way back to camp we saw more horses!!

Vacation!!!

This week we will be out of town! YEAH!! I really need the break, work has been extremely stressful! So we are going to Cumberland Island for Spring Break (I feel like I am in H.S.) and I am super excited!! I am sure I will have TONS of pictures to share with you so stay tuned!!

PS....there are wild horses on the island! How excited am I!?!?! :)

Amicolola Falls

Yesterday we went hiking at Amicolola falls with some friends. We walked up 600 stairs to the top of the falls to see a piddly little creek that fed it. I couldn't believe how small it was! We had a good time though hiking in the beautiful weather and admiring the huge waterfall.

Why I love my cats #3

So I know people might think I am a little too attached to my cats but I cant help it! They are just too much fun and lovable! So this reason I love my cats is because when it snowed last weekend they freaked out....and I mean freaked out! They must have thought the sky was falling because they would not move away from the window all weekend!

The great blizard of 2009!

So I thought I would share some more pictures of all the crazy snow we got here in Georgia. Apparently we got around seven inches. It was sooo beautiful and there is still snow on the ground even though it was 70 degrees here today. I am so confused about the weather here! But having the snow was a ton of fun!!
